2020 - The Best Of

2020 – What… Was… That?!

It was in a nutshell, a year quite like no other. But you don’t need me to tell you that, we all went through it together. The up’s – what few there were, and the down’s – but let’s not dwell on those. 2020 was supposed to be a busy year for me, 24 weddings in the calendar all over the country. Sure it was going to be busy but I couldn’t wait to get stuck in.

Then it happened.

The rest, well you know the rest.

Those first 2/3 months from March onwards and the first lockdown, the wheels came off in spectacular fashion.  Couples cancelled, couples postponed, couples changed their dates some more, the numbers allowed at weddings changed, then they changed again, keeping up was a full time job in itself. If you were planning a wedding in 2020 you needed to be pretty damn resilient. To those that did, have or are still planning – I salute you all.

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY COVID STYLE

But for all the negatives however, there were some positives. I was lucky to photograph a ‘full’ wedding before the lockdown came. You know, a wedding like the old days, with loads of guests, lots of laughter and one hell of a party!! Then over the summer months and in to autumn there were the 4 amazing couples I had the pleasure of hanging out with. These guys all defied the odds and celebrated with family and close friends during their own micro-weddings - covid style.  Each one unique, each one amazing.

Were these weddings any different? Yes and no. Less guests to share and celebrate their day with for sure, but with each and every one they were there for each other, to get married, to say their vows. Fundamentally that’s what weddings are all about. To celebrate the joy and happiness and the bringing of two families together.

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY IN 2021

I’m passionate about being a wedding photographer, what I do and the work I produce for the couples that hire me.  2020 meant this didn’t happen as much as it should of and I missed it. A lot. But I truly believe that one day we’ll get back to where we were – there’s light at the end of tunnel.

Here’s a somewhat smaller edition to the usual end of year ‘Best Of’ post.

Goodbye 2020!
