Tall John’s House Wedding | Melissa & Matt

August bank holiday is always a popular time for wedding photography and this particular day saw me head down to one of the newest venues I’ve worked at for Melissa & Matt’s wedding day.  Tall John’s House is an elegant Georgian manor house, situated in the Llangorse Lake Valley. With it’s beautiful old barn and courtyards, it’s up there with the best Brecon Beacons wedding venues.

The morning was spent flitting back and forth between Mel & Matt as the wedding preparations went on. Mel and her bridal party made use of the main house whilst Matt, his groomsmen and family utilised the beautiful outbuildings that Tall John’s House offers. I think it’s fair to say that Matt was just a little nervous that morning, so when Matt’s Dad Stuey proceeded to try and fit into a shirt that can only be described as a little too small (and by a little, I mean quite a bit) it served to lighten the mood in the best possible way!

NATURAL & UNPOSED WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

I believe that every Tall John’s House wedding has the option to have the ceremony outside should the weather allow. This is what Mel & Matt had chosen to do so thankfully the sun was shining. As Mel walked towards Matt, preceded by two Paige Boys who nearly stole the show, it was clear to see just how much these two mean to each other.

The day carried on with drinks on the lawn in front of Tall John’s House with Festival Nights entertaining everyone.  In weather like that there can’t be many better places to hold a wedding reception I don’t think. The focus of the day then changed over to a different part of the venue in the shape of the restored barn that Tall John’s offers. What a space this is and a total blank canvas which can be decorated however couples wish.

After a little rest during the wedding breakfast, it was time for the speeches. This provided me with an image that although maybe not technically the best, is most definitely one of my favourites of the year. Matt’s dad after the speeches, hand on heart with a face that says ‘that got me right here’. I don’t know what it is specifically about it, but I really, really like it. I hope Mel & Matt do as well.

I then ticked another point off my wedding photographers bucket list by getting chased out of a field by an angry farmer! That will teach couples (and myself) to read signs a little more closely in the future. It seems not everyone is happy on a wedding day! Although I should acknowledge that yes, it was us who was in the wrong.

All in all I cannot say enough about these two. So made for each other, you’d have to blind not to see it. If ever two people were meant to be, then look no further. Their families made me feel so welcome I can honestly say that it feels like I have made new friends for life. As a wedding photographer I get to meet a lot of different people, but these guys, families included, are up there with the best! It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know you both.

Here’s a few of my personal favourites from a very special day, filled with so much laughter. In the words of Mel herself - it was lush!
